CANCELLED - Thornbury Neighbourhood Plan Consultation Event

Cossham Hall, Thornbury

Because of the threat of Covid 19 and with the latest government advice in mind, we have decided to cancel future ‘pop-up’ exhibitions of the draft Thornbury Neighbourhood Plan. The Town Hall has been closed, so there is therefore no access to the exhibition of the draft Thornbury Neighbourhood Plan. Please access information on our website below and on facebook.

10am-2pm

For about three years, a dedicated group of Community members and Town Councillors have been working hard to create a Neighbourhood Plan for Thornbury.

Our plan was created by asking the local community for their views about the future of Thornbury and creating a plan to address these concerns.

Some issues raised were not planning issues and so could not go into the Plan. These have been given to the Town Council who have set up a group of volunteers and councillors to tackle them.

A Neighbourhood Plan lets local communities influence any development taking place in their area. Once it gets approval, all planning applications have to be checked against its policies. Our plan covers:

  • The development of housing (type, design, tenure etc.)
  • Local employment and opportunities for businesses
  • Protecting the character and identity of Thornbury
  • Thornbury town centre and the provision of services and facilities
  • Green and open spaces and connections
  • Protecting the natural environment and mitigating against the impact of climate change
  • Transport and access issues

The plan does not cover the amount of development taking place. This is decided in higher level plans. The Neighbourhood Plan cannot change how much development takes place.

Using what you told us, we created a picture of how the community wanted our area to be in the future and created the draft Thornbury Neighbourhood Plan.

What Happens Next?
We want your views! In the next few months we will be asking you to have a look at the Plan in the Town Hall/Library or via the website link below. Then let us know what you think by completing the online survey or by completing paper copies of the survey at the Town Hall or Library.
The plan and survey will be available from February 29th 2020 until 25th April 2020 on the website below.

All comments will be looked at and changes made if necessary. Once it has gone through all the planning stages, the Plan will go to a referendum of all residents of Thornbury parish for approval. Once it is approved, it will become part of the planning requirements for any development that might take place in our area.

Tricia Down, Chair of Thornbury Neighbourhood Plan said, ‘Please read the plan when it is released and respond to help us to keep our town thriving!’

Come and talk to us, we will be at the St Mary Centre on 7th March and 18th April and in the Cossham Hall on 21st March in the morning.
