Posting an offer or request

Recycle logo Welcome to Give 'n' Take - the easy way to find a home for unwanted items.

You've probably heard the mantra Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - well this is all about the 'reuse' part of that - finding homes for items that would otherwise end up in landfill.

How to post an offer or request for an item

If you have multiple items you want to offer, unless they form a set, it's best to create separate entries for each item.

When adding items, you'll need to enter the following details:

  • Firstly, is this an item you're offering (select OFFERING), or an item you're hoping someone else has spare but hasn't listed (select WANTING)?

  • A one-line description - this is just the title that gets displayed in the lists. Keep it concise and leave the detail for the main text.

  • Category - pick the most suitable category you can find. If there isn't a close match, choose [Other] - we may create a new category for you later.

  • Additional detail - if you're offering an item, please give as much detail as you can regarding the item (eg: a model number, colour etc), and be honest about what condition it's in - if it's broken, say so - it's better that it goes to someone who can mend it, rather than someone who'll be disappointed. If this is a 'want', say why you want it - give people a reason to dig it out of their loft.

...and then just press the "Submit" button. It will wait until a moderator has reviewed and ok'd the item, then it will appear on the list of items for all to see.

Remember, items must be given away with no strings attached - you can't ask for payment, or to swap for something else.

After posting

Once you've posted your item on the list, hopefully you'll get some responses from interested people - read about what happens next.

You can always go back and edit what you've entered (although you'll have to wait for it to be approved by a moderator again), and please remember to go back to your item and mark it as taken once you've given it away to someone.

Go!

Now you know how it works, why not see what's already listed, or post an item of your own?
