Update from Sandra - October 2025

"This year alone, we have proudly worked alongside Thornbury in Bloom, Thornbury Royal British Legion, Krunch, and many other valued community partners. Together, we have raised over £4,500 for St Peter’s Hospice, in memory of Connor, a much-loved young man who sadly lost his battle with cancer at just 26 years old.

Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be a landmark year for Thornbury. Plans are already underway for the town’s first-ever Pride Celebration in June, and a Summer Fest in August, a family-friendly event offering free activities, music, and entertainment – designed especially for families who may not otherwise be able to enjoy a holiday.

To make these events possible, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community. We would be deeply grateful for any raffle prize donations, sponsorship, or financial support you are able to offer – no matter how big or small. In return, we are committed to recognising and promoting our supporters throughout the year across all our community platforms.

We are also seeking volunteers to help with stewarding, street marshalling, and general event support. Even a few hours of your time can make a huge difference and help keep Thornbury’s community spirit thriving.

On a personal note, I am deeply honoured to have recently been named the BBC Fundraiser of the Year 2025 – an award that reflects not only my work but also the kindness, generosity, and togetherness of the people of Thornbury.

Between now and March 2026, our goal is to raise a further £10,000 for St Peter’s Hospice in loving memory of Connor, and an additional £5,000 in memory of my son, Mathew, who tragically took his own life. Mathew’s passing was a devastating reminder of the importance of compassion and understanding – especially as his beloved grandparents, both living with Alzheimer’s dementia, no longer recognised him. Through our fundraising, we aim to honour both Connor and Mathew’s memories by supporting those facing the challenges of cancer, dementia, and mental health struggles. It is a privilege to continue this journey alongside such a caring and resilient community. I would be truly honoured if you would consider joining us in making a lasting difference to the lives of others.

If you can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly using the details below. Your generosity will not only support our events but will help keep the spirit of Thornbury alive and thriving for generations to come.

With heartfelt thanks and warm regards,

Sandra Davies
